Plug.Static with gzip: true serves .gz files when they exist (created by phx.digest) and falls back to uncompressed otherwise. The previous code_reloading? guard was needlessly conservative — in dev without digested assets, there are no .gz files so nothing changes. With the lighthouse task building prod assets, this gives realistic transfer sizes (42KB JS vs 135KB). Mobile lighthouse scores jump from 95-97 to 99-100. Stripe Checkout
SimpleShop uses Stripe Checkout (hosted payment page) for secure payment processing.
Setup
- Create a Stripe account
- Get your API keys from the Stripe Dashboard
- Set environment variables:
export STRIPE_SECRET_KEY="sk_test_..."
export STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET="whsec_..."
Local webhook testing
Use the Stripe CLI to forward webhooks to your local server:
stripe listen --forward-to localhost:4000/webhooks/stripe

Generating Mockups
The project includes a Printify integration for generating product mockups. This is useful for creating sample product images from Unsplash artwork.
Prerequisites
- A Printify account with API access
- Set the
PRINTIFY_API_TOKENenvironment variable
Usage
# Generate all mockups (saves to priv/static/mockups/)
export PRINTIFY_API_TOKEN="your-token"
mix generate_mockups
# Generate mockups and delete products from Printify afterwards
mix generate_mockups --cleanup
# Search for available blueprints
mix generate_mockups --search "poster"
# List all blueprints
mix generate_mockups --list-blueprints
Product definitions are in lib/simpleshop_theme/printify/mockup_generator.ex.

Design Philosophy
- "One theme, infinite variations" - Rather than multiple themes, one solid foundation with curated customisation
- Constrained creativity - Limit choices to prevent poor design outcomes
- No professional photography required - Works with product mockups
- Mobile-first - All features work on touch devices
- Ethical design - No dark patterns or fake urgency
